1. Marcetelli — The sunken village

2. Civita di Bagnoregio — The dying city

Perched on an eroding tufa promontory, reachable only by a pedestrian bridge. One of the most photographed villages in Italy — but arrive before 9:30am to avoid the crowds.

3. Calcata — The artists' village

Declared uninhabitable in the 1960s, repopulated by artists and bohemians in the 1970s. Artisan workshops, aperitivo with views over the Valle del Treja.

4. Labro — The restored medieval village

A Belgian entrepreneur bought and carefully restored this entire medieval village in the 1970s. Now it's a perfect example of medieval architecture with real residents.

5. Blera — The Etruscan roads

The "vie cave" — roads carved 2,500 years ago into tufa rock, 15 meters deep. Free, open 24 hours. One of the most surreal landscapes in central Italy.

6. Sutri — The amphitheater in rock

An Etruscan amphitheater carved directly into the tufa (III-II century BC). Not built — carved. The adjacent rupestrian necropolis was later converted into a Christian church.

7. Vallepietra — The cliff sanctuary

300 inhabitants | 80 km from Rome

A 6th century AD sanctuary carved into a cliff face at 1,100 meters altitude. Romans have been making pilgrimages here since the Middle Ages.

8. Norchia — The abandoned medieval city

30 km from Viterbo | Free, 30 min hike

Abandoned in the 14th century due to malaria. Never rebuilt. Etruscan necropolis, ruined medieval churches, absolute silence.

9. Bullicame — Free thermal springs

2 km from Viterbo | Free, 24 hours

The thermal spring mentioned by Dante in the Inferno. 58°C water, open 24 hours, completely free. Side pools at 40°C are perfect for bathing.

10. Lake Turano — The secret lake

88 km from Rome

The most romantic lake in Lazio. Mountains, medieval villages, kayaking. Almost no tourists outside August.
